A combination of the fantastic weather, the dunes and beach and the Yumbo center is why a lot of people keep coming back to Gran Canaria, though the Yumbo center is also the reason why a few others might not come back, you either love it or hate it.

It's a huge commercial center right in the middle of Playa del Ingles and is home to almost all of the gay bars, restaurants, shops and clubs in the south of the island - "everything under one roof", although it doesn't really have a roof!

It's on four floors in a square shape around a big open-air square in the middle. Because of the size of the square it's where each year a stage is set up for the annual carnival (March) followed by gay-pride (May). A crowd of several thousand can fit in front of the stage easily and have a good view.

During the day is pretty deserted, maybe a few people scattered around the ground level in the terrace cafes or wandering around the hundreds of shops and stalls on floors 2 and 3. If it's a miserable day weather-wise (not many of those) especially raining (even fewer) then by day everyone heads here for something to do with the beach and pools being out of action.

It generally starts to get busy around dinner time and sees a very mixed crowd including families with kids wandering around. Then from around 11pm the bars start to fill up on the ground and first floors and finally, from around 1am the 4th floor bars fill up. There's one nightclub every night of the week called Mantrix on the 4th floor and Friday and Saturday a second club "Heaven" is also open.

People generally start off at the Construction bar and lounge on the ground level then around 1am head up to the 4th floor. People looking for specific bars will find leather bars or bars for bears for example also on the ground and first floors.

There's also a couple of big and busy cabaret bars, Rickey's on the ground level and Sparkles on the second floor.
